Job Description

The Executive Director is responsible for leading the overall operations of the Huntington County Visitor Bureau within the framework of policies as set by the Huntington County Visitor and Convention Bureau Board of Directors. The Executive Director will champion the growth and development of the visitor and tourism industry in Huntington County as an economic driver for the communities and businesses it serves.

Primary Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate efforts with Board of Directors and other stakeholders on the development of a strategic plan to direct county tourism initiatives. Set measurable annual goals and deliver on business actions to achieve those goals.
  • Collaborate and influence with local and state entities to promote and drive tourism for Huntington County.
  • Develop annual budget for board and Tourism Commission approvals.
  • Oversee preparation of timely monthly financial and annual audit reports in accordance with procedures approved by board.
  • Ensure all tourism bureau activities are implemented within established organizational policies and guidelines, appropriate laws and ethical standards.
  • Develop, review, purchase and distribute advertising, marketing programs, collateral pieces, press releases.
  • Develop and maintain website and social media platforms, and oversee branding and messaging of the bureau and county tourism assets.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, conventions and workshops to further tourism knowledge. Stay informed of the changes in tourism industry and attend state-wide meetings.
  • Represent Huntington County tourism in regional and state-wide initiatives.
  • Oversee and manage Visitor Center operations and consistency and quality of services of staff.
  • Establish and maintain organizational policies and procedures, using board input and approval when needed
  • Oversee recruiting, development, evaluation, management, compensation recommendations and termination of all tourism bureau team members. Perform various administrative and HR functions and establish efficient office procedures.
  • Establish and maintain on-going communications with all community and tourism industry constituents. This will be achieved by maintaining a strong visible presence in the community and establishing and maintaining necessary relationships with community leaders.
  • Make community presentations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic office software: MS Office Suite, Windows and Quickbooks
  • Knowledge of web development, social media management and related tools
  • Demonstrated marketing and/or public relations experience
  • Ability to author reports, business correspondence and organizational plans and procedures
  • Ability to maintain and interpret budgets, financial reports and government regulations.
  • Exercise independent judgement, discretion and initiative while utilizing tact and courtesy in frequent contact with business representatives, government officials and the public.
  • Exceptional organizational, multi-tasking and strong project management skills.
  • High competence in project and stakeholder management
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a changing market
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and be a direct and influential contributor to the organization and community.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, facilitation and team management
  • Marketing experience including graphic design, commercial writing, art direction and advertising campaigns
  • Bachelor’s degree with training, experience in marketing, tourism, hospitality or related fields.

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Occasional Weekend or evening availability
